Staff Spotlight – Ms. Lane
April 1, 2021
Rashel Lane has been a school counselor for 5 ½ years at MTS. She received her Bachelor’s degree from the University of Wisconsin-Stout, Menomonie, WI and earned her Master’s degree from Capella University, Minneapolis, MN. She said she knew that she wanted to be a school counselor after she graduated from college and couldn’t find a job in any field related to her major of psychology. “I knew I needed to go back to school to pursue my passion of working in a school and working with students,” she told me. She states that she never had a dream college because she never explored her options when she was in high school.
Ms. Lane likes to counsel students and help them figure out what is best for them. She enjoys listening to them and getting to know students better so she can help guide them in making good choices. Her favorite level of student is middle school because they are still figuring things out and she wants to be someone they can trust and talk to. Middle school is a very hard time when growing up! She also loves working with high school students when they start to take ownership of their education and understand that they are in the driver’s seat for doing what they want and getting what they want out of life.
One thing she doesn’t really like about her job as a school counselor is when she has to do scheduling in skyward. It is slow and boring! She also says that she would’ve chosen to be an artist, a photographer, professional party planner, or a DJ/producer of electronic music if she wasn’t a teacher.
